Some heating problems aren’t a single broken part. A bedroom that never warms up, winter bills that keep climbing, or an old system you want to upgrade all need someone to look at the whole system. Gelid Tech handles home heating from the furnace or heat pump to the vents.
Heating Systems We Work On
- Gas furnaces
- Electric furnaces
- Heat pumps, which heat in winter and cool in summer
- Thermostats, including programmable and smart thermostats
- Supply vents, returns and airflow problems
Heating Problems We Solve
- Uneven heat: rooms far from the furnace or over the garage that stay cold, often from airflow or duct problems.
- High heating bills: an aging system, a dirty filter or leaking ducts.
- Heat pump trouble: a unit stuck in defrost, blowing lukewarm air or relying on backup heat.
- Thermostat issues: a system that won’t respond or cycles too often.
Repair, Replace or Upgrade
If one part has failed, see our furnace repair service. If your system is near the end of its life, we can quote a furnace installation or heat pump. A thermostat upgrade alone can improve comfort and cut wasted run time.
Keep Your Heat Reliable
A fall tune-up through HVAC maintenance cleans the burners, tests safety controls and checks airflow before the first cold night.
Heat Pump Repair and Service
Heat pumps are common in North Texas because they handle both summer cooling and mild winter heating with one outdoor unit. In heating mode, the system pulls warmth from outdoor air and moves it inside. Typical heat pump problems include:
- Lukewarm air: heat pump air feels cooler than furnace air, which can be normal. Air that is truly cool may mean low refrigerant or a failed reversing valve.
- Stuck in defrost or iced over: a light frost is normal on cold, damp days, and the unit melts it in defrost mode. A thick block of ice points to a defrost control, sensor or airflow problem.
- Running on backup heat: electric strip heat is expensive to run. If your bills jump and the thermostat shows auxiliary or emergency heat often, the heat pump may not be doing its job.
- Won’t switch between heating and cooling: usually the reversing valve or its solenoid.
Fixing Uneven Heating
A cold bedroom or a chilly room over the garage is one of the most common complaints we hear. The cause is rarely the furnace alone. We check:
- Duct leaks: in many Mansfield homes, ducts run through a hot summer and cold winter attic. Leaky joints lose heat before it reaches the room.
- Duct sizing and layout: long runs to far rooms may not deliver enough air.
- Return air: rooms with closed doors and no return can’t pull in warm air.
- Insulation and windows: rooms over garages and with large windows lose heat faster.
- Blower speed: a fan set too low can’t push enough air to the farthest rooms.
Once we know the cause, the fix may be as simple as balancing dampers or as involved as sealing ductwork or adding a return.
Lowering Your Winter Heating Bills
- Replace your air filter regularly so the system isn’t fighting for air.
- Use a programmable or smart thermostat to lower the temperature while you sleep or are away.
- Keep supply vents and returns open and clear of furniture.
- Have the system checked each fall so burners, sensors and blowers run efficiently.
- If you have a heat pump, avoid big thermostat jumps, which can trigger costly backup heat.
Thermostat Installation and Upgrades
An old or poorly placed thermostat can make a working system feel broken. A thermostat in a hallway near a drafty door or in direct sunlight reads the wrong temperature. We install and set up programmable and smart thermostats, make sure they’re wired for your system, and configure heat pump and backup heat settings correctly.
Safe Heating for Your Family
Gas heat is safe when the system is maintained. Every heating visit includes a look at venting and safety controls. Keep carbon monoxide detectors near bedrooms, keep the furnace area clear of stored items, and never use an oven or outdoor heater to warm the house during an outage.
Heating Services FAQ
Why is one room always colder? Distance from the furnace, blocked or closed vents, leaky ducts and poor insulation are the usual causes. We find which one applies to your home.
Is a heat pump a good choice in Texas? In a mild winter climate like North Texas, heat pumps work well and replace both the AC and the furnace with one system.
Why is my heat pump blowing cool air? Heat pump air usually feels around 90 to 95 degrees, which can feel cooler than furnace air. If the air is closer to room temperature, have it checked.
What is emergency heat on my thermostat? It runs only the electric backup strips, without the heat pump. It’s meant for when the heat pump fails, and it costs much more to run.
Why is my heat pump covered in ice? Light frost is normal and should clear in a defrost cycle. A thick layer of ice that stays means the system needs service.
Can ductwork cause high heating bills? Yes. Leaky ducts in an unconditioned attic can waste a large share of the heat your system produces.
